       The best time to visit is between December and the beginning of May . One should visit the Andamans after 1 February and before 15 April.

       Port Blair is the main centre.To access the island from the main land one has to come to the capital, Port Blair first and then go to other islands taking the local transport available.


    The Indian Airline has flights from Calcutta and Chennai on rotational basis. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday flights from Calcutta goes to Chennai via Port Blair. On Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday flights originate from Chennai and goes to Calcutta via Port Blair.Port Blair is connected by Indian Airlines with Madras, Calcutta and Car Nicobar.


    There are ships sailing from Calcutta, Chennai, Visakhapatnam. But the journey from Visakhapatnam is very erratic. From Chennai and Calcutta also the trip is only thrice or four times a month. The trip may take a three to four days from Chennai and may be one more day on the Calcutta route. Locally one can take boats to various islands.      

    Railways does not connect the islands with the mainland but there is a railway out-agency at the Secretariat.

       Port Blair has taxis and auto-rickshaws. It is advisable to have own transportation to explore the island. Bicycles are available at very low rate. Private boats can also be hired.
