The
homeland of simple and colourful tribals, Dadra and Nagar Haveli

Measuring
about 491 sq. kms, the place is abound in natural beauty and there

and a half, the fiery Portuguese were the masters of the land. When
the land was liberated from their rule, it was taken over by the
locals until it merged with the Indian Union.
Silva,
in Portuguese means wood. And this can be seen when you visit Silvassa,
the tiny, sleepy capital township. Tall trees reaching for the heavens
line the roads. Off the beaten track, little cottages back in the
warm Sun or lie in the shadows of the trees. In Silvassa, you can
see traces of the Portuguese rule, an old church....

How to
Reach:
From Mumbai - Ahmedabad N.H. No. 8, Silvassa, the Capital Town of
DNH, is about 180 kms.
From Mumbai, about 120 kms. from Surat and about 14 kms. from Bhilad
or Vapi.

The nearest Railway Station Vapi is about 17 kms. where road transport
is easily available.
Visitors Paradise:
Lake and Garden
Named after the
local tribal Deity 'Hirwa' is the Hirwavan Garden
full with the murmur of brooks and the gustling waterfalls. In the
early mornings, one can spot the sun creating magical rainbows on
the fountains near Vanganga Lake. One can witness the most pristine
sight your eyes have ever seen a garden amidst an enchanting lake.
You may choose to paddle through or jog alongside the lake or merely
stare at the swan who have made the lake their home.
Haveli
The history of Dadra and
Nagar Haveli is carved in wood and stone in the monuments from the
past that dot the land. Ancient, dilapidated ruins of vast houses
maintain an imposing silence. The intricate carvings on the door
have mysteriously remained intact, perhaps to remind future generations
of an ancient, and glorious past.
Shrines
There are several old
shrines in Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Bindrabin, the historic temple
at Lord Shiva locally known as Tadkeshwara is situated amidst. Aversts
on the bank at river Sakartod. People from far off places visit
to pray and seek blessings. One of the many fascinating sights you
see in Dadra & Nagar Haveli is a glorious century old chapel, the
church of our lady of piety, built way back in 1889, by the portuguese.
This one magnificent structure, chapter in the land's history under
portuguese rule, which began way back in 1779 when the portuguese
acquired 72 villages which comprise this territory. In this land
of peace and beauty, we find an ancient temple as well as a Portuguese
church- testimony that diverse religious faiths co-exist. In perfect
harmony with nature, and with each other.

One
can trace some of the most beautiful variety of flora and fauna
in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. They are a tressure to the nature lover
