Dussehra, commemorating
the victory of Rama over Ravana is celebrated all India but in Kullu
it is celebrated in a very special way.
Kullu Dussehra
Held in Oct/Nov, is held for
10 days and is a major attraction for tourists.
In October, after the
monsoon, this festival is celebrated in all over the India, but
most particularly in Kulu. The festival starts on the 10th day of
the rising moon, 'Vijay Dashmi ' and continues for seven days. Dussehra
celebrates Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana and his brothers,
but does not include burning of Ravana and his brothers, as it does
in other places around India.
Over
600 deities come to pay homage to Lord Ragunathji. This is a time
when the valley is at it's colourful best.
Kullu-Natti : It is a
feast of rythm and harmony,Nattis are performed by teams swaying
with nimble feet to the pulse of rhythmic beats, with all the nerve
and passion of the soul of each dancer.Natti is natural expression
in united feeling and action, of the people of Kullu.It is dance
with religious undertones. Natti has been a folk and has followed
the tradition of folk dancers in all parts of the world.

Held in May at Mashobra.
Dussehra
Held in Oct at Jakhoo.
Manali
Doongri Festival
It is dedicated to Goddess Hadimba
is held in May. A fair held in Doongri Forest in honour of the Goddess.
Mandi
Sivrati Festival
One of the most interesting
festivals in Himchal Pradesh. It lasts for a week and deities from
all over Mandi district are brought here.Large number of people
have darshan at the Bhutnath Temple. The Festival, Tso-Pema,
is particularly important in the year of Monkey, which falls
every 12 years.
Chamba
The Minjar Festival is held
each year in late July / early August. The Sui Festival is held
in March / April. Sui Mata was a Chamba princess who gave her life
for her people. Besides these all other major Indian festivals are
also celebrated with great enthusiasm.
