    Nashik stands on the bank of Godavari river,one of the holiest rivers of the Deccan.Like Ujjain ,this one is is one of the sites for the triennial Kumbh mela which comes here once in every 12 years.The riverbanks are lined with steps above which stand many temples & shrines.Nashik is a very old city but over a long period of time is moulding itself into a fast growing modern metropolitan.

           Aeons ago the gods & demons fought a great battle for the Kumbh ,drinking the contednts would bring immortality,after a struggle lasting for 12 days the gods eventually defeated the demons & drank the nectar.During the fight for the pitcher's possesion fouir drops of nectar split on the earth at Allahabad ,Hardwar ,Nashik,Ujjain.The "Kumbh Mela" is held among the four cities . It is held in Nashik after every 12 years.

               Sita Gupha the cave from which ,Sita The Wife of Lord Rama ,was supposed to have been carried off to the island of Lanka by the evil king Ravana is now a place called as Panchavati in Nashik.

   This interesting place with its picturesque bathing ghats is a good stop on the way from Mumbai to Aurangabad.

         The city roads are dominated by two wheelers primarily though one can also find many autorickshaws,taxis & sumos alongwith private & public transport buses.

         The city is well equipped with deluxe star hotels as well as moderate ones for lodging & boarding purposes,the local markets are full with handikrafts,embroidery sarees,as well as silken products.

Best Season :
  Typical temperatures during the summer months are say anywhere between 30 to 35 degree celsius .Temperatures do drop down a bit during night time.

       Typical temperatures during the winter months can be anywhere between 18 to 25 degree celsius .

       Hence one can safely say the best season to visit Nashik can be between October to February.

Pandu Lena : About eight km south-west of Nashik are these 21 Hinayana Buddhist caves.The most intersting caves are the 3 ,
10 & 18.

Trimbakeshwar : This is the source of the Godavari river ,it is approximately 30 kms from Nashik.From this source high on a steep hill ,the river dribbles into a bathing tank whose waters are reputed to wash all sins
