     Orissa is known for its exquisite handicrafts which are made artistically by the Orissan artists. The roots of the handicrafts of Orissa are in one way or the other intertwined with the rituals and traditions of Lord Jagannath, the presiding deity of the Puri temple.

Some of them are :-
Silver Filigree : which is locally called tarakasi is a craft is which localised at Cuttack town and a few villages in Cuttack district. It is process in which silver is drawn through a series of consecutively smaller holes to produce fine strands of wire, which are then made into various shapes & different designs and are soldered them with pincer and scissors. Silver filigree has been an important export items of Orissa from ancient times

Applique Work : This technique which is also called as patch work involves cutting of colourful fabrics in the shape of flowers, birds and animals; stitching them artistically on coloured cloth. Some of the specially prepared motifs have exclusive embroidery work and some have mirror work.It is a speciality of Pipli near Bhubaneswar,

Stone Carving : A popular Handicraft of Orissa which is evident from the many archaelogical monuments and sculptures The craftsmen making stone carved articles are mainly found in Baulagadia and Nilgiri.

Wood Carving : which is another important handicraft of Orissa can be divided into 3 types.
a) Painted wooden toys, idols etc which are found mainly in Puri. These items are made light varieties of wood and painting is done using vegetables and mineral colours.
b) Articles carved out of soft wood like white teak. This art is practiced mainly in Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Cuttack.
c) Articles which are made from harder and darker wood. This is practiced mainly in Daspalla region in Puri district.

Cotton and Silk fabrics and sarees are also famous from Orissa escepially Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack.
